Someone near and dear to me recently posted on her FaceBook that if it weren’t for the economy she would be on vacation in Florida right now.

The women in her family make a traditional journey to the land of beaches every fall but she used the money she had saved for the trip on a used car. A good used car. It was a good purchase.

And then I was reading HowtoGetOutofDebt.org and there was a woman not sleeping and in dire straights because of how Bank of America is cheating her.

These two stories have one core problem: the people have become victims. They have given away their power.

So here are the five rules to re-gaining our power, seeing opportunity, and creating what we really, really want in life:bigstockphoto_Opportunity_4541590

1. Never, ever veer from your own beliefs, your own hope and faith. Doubting Thomas’s and Thomasinas are all around us. They will tell us we are helpless, that our situation is not our fault, that we can’t help what is going on in the world. Look for the evidence of your unique power. For example these brands started in economic downturns and look at them now: Rice Krispies, Miracle Whip, iPod, Plymouth, FedEx, Healthy Choice, Hyundai, Scott Paper Co., and Penguin Publishing (Business Pundit.)

2. Accept risk: Courage is being scared to death… and saddling up anyway. John Wayne. If we are in debt, if we aren’t making enough money then we obviously need a major change in our lives. Change means stepping out of our comfort zone. And that takes courage. But the rewards can be fantastic!

3. Keep your eye on the prize, even if you have to re-focus many times per day. Decide what it is that you really want (your powerful WHY) and make this your compass. For example, say you want to quit your job and start a home-based business. But an event comes up you really want to see. You’re tempted, but you close your eyes and imagine quitting your job, depositing checks from your business, taking a nap whenever you want… Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought. Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich.

4. Value failure just as much as you do triumph. Failure gives us a rich opportunity to learn and re-vamp. I’d rather be a failure at something I love than a success at something I hate. George Burns.

5. Listen, with great faith, to the small voice in your head for this is the voice of opportunity. Once we decide on our dream we open an invisible path of thousands and thousands of opportunities. Being open to opportunity coupled with the faith that the opportunity really can manifest itself is THE single most valuable key to wealthMama exhorted her children at every opportunity to ‘jump at de sun.’ We might not land on the sun, but at least we would get off the ground. Zora Neale Hurston, Dust Tracks on a Road, 1942.

Sum it up this way: Listen, believe, accept fear, and keep your focus.

NOW HERE’S ONE OF MY FAVORITE FUNNIES:

A man boarded a plane with 6 kids. After they got settled in their seats
a woman sitting across the aisle from him leaned over to him and asked,
“Are all of those kids yours?”
He replied, “No. I work for a condom company. These are customer
complaints.”

Best of luck. PLEASE SHARE HOW YOU ARE DOING.
