More Money: How to Make More Money if You Are Good at Writing

This is the third in a series of brief tidbits of ideas that will hopefully help you if you need to create more money in your life.

This blog is focusing on writing which is a huge topic. I am only skimming the surface here. Please comment if you have tips to help others.

1. Tutor people who struggle with English as a second language. More than 25% of US residents and citizens speak a foreign language in their homes.

2. Prepare quizzes and trivia. Sell your services to fund raising organizations (the classic trivia nights), magazines, local and national papers, professional organizations.

3. Write newsletters for organizations and companies. Stay within a certain industry and re-sell the same information many times over. For example, I know a woman who consults with pest control companies all over the country, providing content for websites, ads, mailings, and newsletters. She only has to do her research once.

4. Ghostwrite. I would be willing to bet there is a war hero, or a retired politician in your community who would love to have his or her story in print. A woman I know mother was one of the first army nurses to land at Okinawa.bigstockphoto_Memorial_To_The_Army_Field_Med_1448518 Her uniform is now hanging in a museum. I bet she has some amazing stories to put down for posterity. Many of these people never document their lives because they can’t write. If you can you could be looking at some nice change and an interesting experience.

5. Start a website selling specific types of business letters, e.g. samples of “Your account is past due,” “Thank you for your application however…” “We would appreciate your endorsement/referral” “Glad to have met you letter,” Fundraising letters, Announcement letters, etc.

6. Advertise your services as an audiovisual or video script writer.

7. Business material package writer. For example, a new company is planning on attending a big trade show. They need informational materials (brochures, reports, letters,) and business cards that coordinate and look professional. Read the rest of this entry »

More Money: How to Make More Money if You Are Good with a Computer

This is second in a series of brief tidbits of ideas that will hopefully help you if you need to create more money in your life.

This blog is focusing on “If You Are Good with a Computer.”

1. Teach. Many people need productivity and buy a nice shiny box of software from the office store, take it home, and can’t get through the first pages of instructions. Many people (like me) get frustrated with tutorials and would much rather have someone sitting next to them teaching them how to do fancy spreadsheets, graphics, or accounting.

More Money: How to Make Money if You Are Creative and Handy

I am beginning a series of brief tidbits of ideas that will hopefully help you if you need to create more money in your life.

This blog is focusing on “If You Are Creative and Handy.”

1. Build cute, original houses for: dogs, little kids, aquariums, dog beds, etc.

2. Build bookshelves3-300x175 out of outrageous stuff: stacks of specific books (e.g. cookbooks, sports books, mysteries, golf series, old dictionaries, Playboy magazines, song books, etc.), car parts, shoes, vintage toys, cooking utensils, musical instruments etc. The more original, personalized, and unusual the higher the price you’ll get.  This interesting bookshelf set is from Lago. 10 Ways to Make Money for the Holidays Now

Every year I think I’m going to put money aside for the holidays and then the holidays roll around I have some change in peanut butter jar. Good intentions shot to hell.

So if the holidays are quickly approaching, and you’re looking at a few dusty pennies, here are some tips that might help:

1. Sell your stuff on eBay or Craig’s List. Not certain you have anything to sell? How about books? Bundle similar books (like old cookbooks, science fiction, how to’s, etc.) and you may get a tidy sum. Have some clothes in very good shape? Bundle them by size and usage. Make sure you search eBay to see if these kinds of  items are selling (search for “vintage cook books”, click on “advanced search,” and then check “completed sales” to see what these types of items are selling for.)

2. Make things to sell that aren’t normally found in stores, (advertise in local papers, church bulletins, Craig’s List, ebay) e.g.:bigstockphoto_Chives_1699549

  • Personalized herb gardens (start growing now.)
  • Personalized fleece blankets. Super easy to make and something people can place orders for. Great for college kids, tweens, and little ones.
  • Custom shadow boxes. (buy the shadow box and you design the display)

3. Sometimes the easiest way to make money is to Read the rest of this entry »

More Money: The Real Secret to Wealth

Someone near and dear to me recently posted on her FaceBook that if it weren’t for the economy she would be on vacation in Florida right now.

The women in her family make a traditional journey to the land of beaches every fall but she used the money she had saved for the trip on a used car. A good used car. It was a good purchase.

And then I was reading HowtoGetOutofDebt.org and there was a woman not sleeping and in dire straights because of how Bank of America is cheating her.

These two stories have one core problem: the people have become victims. They have given away their power.

So here are the five rules to re-gaining our power, seeing opportunity, and creating what we really, really want in life:bigstockphoto_Opportunity_4541590
