How One Guy Made It Big Doing What He Loves

This is the beginning of another series. It is all about real people who have, for one reason or another, changed their lives by doing what they love. And come out doing okay. Some doing very, very okay.

Meet Glen Halliday of Kids Crooked House (You may have seen some of his great work on Jon & Kate Plus Eight)

———-

How long have you been doing this?

If the question refers to being an entrepreneur, I’d say my entire life. Raking leaves, shoveling a walkway for $1.00 were all jobs I started when I was 9 years old. I was always my dream to be my own boss. Later in life, after getting a degree in visual communications (a fancy name for a graphic designer), I would freelance for various companies under the name “Glen Halliday Design” designing logos, collateral, websites, and so on. My current company, Kids Crooked House,  is a great mix of everything I love. I get to be very creative, work with my hands and build, but also surround myself with people I enjoy working with.

How did you get the idea to do it?

Like most success stories, Kids Crooked House happened Read the rest of this entry »

More Money: I Think I Can’t, I Think I Can’t…

I’ve been watching Joe Vitale’s series on the Awakened Millionaire and this last one really hit home for me.

It’s not new information for me but I hadn’t thought about it for a long time.

It was all about the subconscious and how it affects everything we do.

You see the subconscious mind is busy. It is estimated that it sends your conscious mind about 50,000 messages a day. Wow! That’s about 34 messages per minute.

The subconscious mind needs a hobby.

Unfortunately the subconscious mind is a bit of a worry wort and it tends to hold onto memories and messages for a very long time. AND, it can, with great efficiency, torpedo all of your hard work toward your life goals and dreams. (I told you it needed a hobby.)

This is how it works for me. I’m working on developing a product (that I’m really excited about) that I will (I almost wrote “want” but decided “will” was a more pro-active phrasing) sell on QVC, the famous shopping network.

Bankruptcy: Survey Helps You Decide

2008 U.S. bankruptcies: 1,117,771.

You are not alone if you are contemplating bankruptcy.

Complete the following Debt Dance survey. Its score will help guide you as to whether you need to file, if this is the right time to file, or, if you should be looking at other alternatives. This is informational only.

If you are considering filing bankruptcy it is imperative that you speak with an attorney to better evaluate your unique situation.

Take a moment and write down your financial and life dreams. Attach an approximate dollar figure to them. For example:

How to Start a Nonprofit Charity: Chapter One: What You Must Have to Be Successful

For many of us our dreams are not wealth or material items but rather a consuming desire to better the world in some way.

The following is the first of six posts about how (or if) to start a charitable organization.
It was my genuine pleasure to work in the non profit field for 23 years including starting a non-profit (with a great partner) and running its fiscal side for ten years. This series is a result of my experiences as a founder, teacher, and consultant in this field.

The Debt Gurus Are Great…But They Just Don’t Get It

More than 50% of Americans worry about their money. Really worry. And they buy “How to Get Out of Debt Books” like crazy.

And, yet, they’re still in debt. They’re still worrying.

Why?

Because they are asking the wrong question. They think that they will find the “how.” They will find a secret formula that will finally work.

The real question to ask is “why?”

If you watch any of the bajillion crime solving shows on TV or in the movies, you hear this over and over. “We know she’s dead. We’re pretty damn sure it was Col. Mustard…with a candlestick…in the library. But, we just don’t know why!”
